After struggling two years, now its time to go fully open source, fro past 1 year, we were releasing ClipBucket under CBLA that simple states that you cannot resale it, but now we are officially releasing ClipBucket under “Open Source OSI : The Attribution Assurance License”, that simple states that
- Redistributions of source code, in whole or part and with or without
modification (the "Code"), must prominently display this GPG-signed
text in verifiable form.
- Redistributions of the Code in binary form must be accompanied by
this GPG-signed text in any documentation and, each time the resulting
executable program or a program dependent thereon is launched, a
prominent display (e.g., splash screen or banner text) of the Author’s
attribution information, which includes:
(a) Name ("Arslan Hassan"),
(b) Professional identification ("Powered by ClipBucket"), and
(c) URL (http://clip-bucket.com).
- Neither the name nor any trademark of the Author may be used to
endorse or promote products derived from this software without specific
prior written permission.
- Users are entirely responsible, to the exclusion of the Author and
any other persons, for compliance with (1) regulations set by owners or
administrators of employed equipment, (2) licensing terms of any other
software, and (3) local regulations regarding use, including those
regarding import, export, and use of encryption software.
Now, Developers have fully permission of selling, distributing our code but it must carry our name on it as the license said.
Next version of ClipBucket ie ClipBucket v2.0.4 will be released under this licensing modal.
original source of license can be found here
Thanks for Using ClipBucket
Arslan
Why Arslan ?
are that means you will stop updating The Script ?
On February 9, 2010I don’t believe it means he plans on stopping developement, it just a little licensing tidbit and stuff. Don’t worry about it
On February 10, 2010This is just a much better license for this particular application, I’m pretty sure it is what we all would want for clip-bucket. The licensing change itself has nothing to do with Mr Arslan’s continued development of the source-code. Now he can be sure people won’t legally be able to remove his name/the ‘powered by’ tag (linking to the original site for clip-bucket development) and at the same time remain open source. I like it
I’m really, really positive about this software and have been working on it a lot. If anyone is having problems with encoding on linux hosts i have a bunch of patches that’ll make it work (i think, for most people) out of the box without making the changes/adding missing db-entry/config-fluff for encoding-codec to each update, in turn it wouldn’t work on windows – … – ’nuff said
. I haven’t posted about it yet, because that section of the code looks like it’s just not completed (as in: Mr Arslan probably didn’t get to it just yet – uncommenting stuff makes features work that otherwise didn’t and such).
On February 10, 2010well, yes there are still some parts that i want to improve for conversion, you can send me your patches as it will help me to finalize the code
you will get your credit =D
On February 10, 2010Dear Arslan, And what about the sites using ClipBucket before 14 February 2010? Are those sites change to the new License? Or they are going to be under the CBLA licence?
On February 18, 2010ClipBucket v2.x is officially open source now, no matter under what license it was released…
On February 23, 2010[...] otherwise noted, all Javascript code on this site is licensed under a Creative Commons License. …ClipBucket Going Fully Open Source With New License …Redistributions of source code, in whole or part and with or without … send me your patches as it [...]
